Gathering Data Through All SensesUse all your senses, stay alive, participate fully, get your hands dirty, experience it all. Don't hold back.

An example of when I was gathering data through all senses is with my Chemistry project that my group and I are conducting currently. This project was one we thought of ourselves, and it entails how fast apples rot when mixed with different liquids. During this project, we cut 5 apples each approximately 1 gram each, and poured multiple chemicals including lemon juice, vinegar, distilled water, salt water, and sugar water on the apple and weighed the change of mass over 10 min, 30 min, and 2 days. Because of these chemicals and being left out and exposed to the atmosphere, the apple had rotted and shrunk and therefore had decreased in mass. However, when conducting this experiment not only did the mass change in a quantitative matter, but the apple also change qualitatively too.

For example, I used my eye sight to see that all of the apples became much smaller as it appeared to have shrunk while left out. This was very interesting and caused a big large change in mass. Also the color of the apple slice had changed and had become much darker for mostly all of the apple slices. I used my nose to smell the apple slices, and as suspected it did indeed smell like apple even though it had taken part of a much unpleasant reaction. And finaly, I used my touch to feel the apple and feel how it had shrunk and how it became harder as the liquid dried up. However, I did not use my ears or tongue because there was no sound, and the taste would be unhygienic. All of these qualitative results were then recorded and were evaluated on why each occurred. This experiment is a perfect example of when I used a lot of my senses to gather more data for a project.
